How I Went from Working in Recruitment to Running a High-Profile PR Agency
You don’t have to be stuck in the same profession. In fact, Millennials these days are changing careers an average of 5x in their life (not jobs… CAREERS! Gone are our parents’ days when you worked in the same job forever.
Many of you message me and ask me how on earth I went from working in recruitment to starting a successful marketing agency: it started as a “side hustle.”
What is a side hustle? It’s when you take action and start learning or start a new profession in your spare time.
Hard work pays off, and because I spent the evenings and weekends learning how to build websites, creating content, building my brand, and studying digital marketing, I was able to start my business and become a full-time entrepreneur at 25.
Every day now, the rate of information in the world is DOUBLING. What to learn how to create websites? Become better at sales? Learn digital marketing? There is endless amounts of free information in blogs, YouTube tutorials, and online courses like Coursea.
If you put enough time, research and practice into something, you can become an expert at anything.
Sure, working full time in recruitment, while studying and trying to build a name for myself was tiring: I woke up at 5am to study before work, I didn’t go out partying and weekends were spent working indoors, but was it worth it to now be working for myself, working with high-profile strategists, serial tech entrepreneurs, being askeed to compete on a global Amazon Prime series and just generally crushing it at life?
I’m not here to brag about my success, in fact, I still have a long way to go with ALOT more that I want to achieve. I’m still moving. Starting new companies and building the ones that I’ve got. Still working hard this weekend while other people I know are out brunching.
So, you want a career change or to run your own business? Cool, start Googling. Spend at least 1 hour a day working towards your goals. Trust me, your persistency will pay off.
